Tell us a little bit about
yourself:
I'm 20 years old. I love kittens!!! I
love change, and i love cleaning. It's my therapy. I love Crime
shows! And just recently I've wanted to be involved in Forensic
photography, but after looking into it there isn't enough crime
in Australia to keep me in a full time job!! But other than that,
i like dress ups, I'm the type that doesn't finish too many projects,
i get up all my inspiration when I'm trying to sleep, then i
don't get any cos my mind wonders hardcore!
How and when did you discover your love for photography?
In
2003 i was an exchange student in Denmark and my parents sent over
a 2.1Mp HP photo smart "snap" camera that they
got for free with a toaster or something and i just snapped everything,
especially myself, as bad quality as it was, it still gave a
good screen resolution, which i just wagged all my classes at
my Danish school to hang out in the computer room and edit!
Then
i also had my pentax SLR which i didn't know how to use and shot
everything on F5.6 & 1/1000. But suprisingley i pulled a
lot of flukes! From that year one, after starting a photography
club at my Danish school and trying to do it in another language,
i came back to year 12 and just snapped more.
What subjects inspire you to embark on a shoot?
I've always been interested in women. I started shooting myself
above all and it was amazing when i took a good photo, and i liked
it, and other people liked it. Most of all i am into Atmosphere.
I'm still challenging myself to create it and to push it. Beautiful
women with atmosphere. It's really a matter of searching for the
perfect me in someone else and putting them into what i want as
a fantasy.

How much of your talent lies with intuition as opposed
to training?
I was definitely self taught in every creative process i do. From
Photoshop, to Illustrator, to the paint brush and even sewing!
I studied photography to learn all these hardcore techniques, but
when i got to my course, it was a lot of bullshit at first and
i already knew everything and i had to chase after the answers
i wanted. But i have a very good instinct of how things will work...
technically.
What is your favourite time of day to work?
hehe i think from 9.30pm until my eyes say enough!
What cameras do you use to produce your work?
Most of my work has been produced by Asahi Pentax SP 1000, which
my grand-dad gave me and i just don't want anything else coz i
fell in love with the little thing. But now i use Mamiya C330,
love 120 film, very good quality and now i'll be working on my
more conceptual work with 4x6 camera, but thats limited to the
studio, coz its not mine!
As for digital works, i use a good ol' Canon 350D. It does what
i need it to.

Do you have a favourite? Why?
Pentax SP 1000. It doesn't break, and i love the lens, it was
a reason i wanted to do photography because i could control the
aperture and Depth of field was my favourite.
What’s
your opinion on film vs. digital?
Film for sure, Digital is cool, if its for screen only. It'd awesome
when i successfully pull of an analogue technique that any odd
person pulls on on photoshop within a good hour. To me, thats really
photography.
How would you describe your style?
Circles! hehe, or bubbly, and crisp. All my work is me. Everything
is me, i am the glass. I am the dark blurred butterfly. My style
is... improvised and what ever i feel like.
What is the most important element to capture in your
photography?
Emotion. Even a dream. Trying to get inside and that moment no
one could get any closer to.
Which photographers and artists do you admire?
The first couple of photographers i looked up to are Lithium Picnic
(www.lithiumpicnic.com) and Nadya Lev (www.nadyalev.com). Their
work is high quality eye candy. Names name, not too good with names,
but a little bit of Helmet Newton isn't too bad.
The subjects and style of your work can be quite confronting.
Do you find that some visuals can have an automatically negative
influence on peoples opinions of your work?
Nah, i haven't had much negativity at all. Actually come to think
of it, i can't think of anything bad someone has said about my
work!

Where do you live and work?
I live in the country side past the western suburbs, i
hang out in Melbourne and study in the eastern Suburbs. Work? what's
work?
|

In what way do your surroundings influence your work?
For one, i was Born in north west Victoria, complete country,
so where do you think i got my imagination from!?
I'm surrounded by family, doesn't bother me i always have models! Especially
my photogenic 11 year old bro. But no matter where i am, nothing is bad
influence. I like to be alone. If i'm on the train or at school and there are
so many people around that can annoy me, i just don't look and they aren't there.
I do my own thing, and thats the only way to ever do it, and get something done.
What interests do you have outside of photography?
I love dancing!! I like wine and if i ever buy a bottle
to taste i'll drink it all night by myself. I like motor bikes! I
love vegetables and healthy food, but i eat 3 courses of chocolate
a day! I'm such a sweet tooth. I like to make my own clothes and
then i wear them out to a club or pub and i end up getting too much
attention. I like painting, big scale, and selling them. but its
so hard to let paintings go! I like nature and camping and getting
dirty.
What is the most rewarding aspect of what you do? The most
frustrating?
The most rewarding is, i just hang out and have a few
images on web sites, i know that i don't try very hard, ha! really,
and people just message me a lot and i don't even ask for it. Gotten
a few jobs here and there and i wasn't even advertising.
I have built up a name for myself coz i've made a few girls look super cute here
and there. its cool coz i have created this awesome model management out of nothing,
and use all the different experiences from each shoot/job, one more step closer
to something.... that I'm not even trying to get! It's just coming. Over all,
I'm just doing what i do and people dig it and i don't even have to look or ask
for it.
The most frustrating? Not much, I had one recent experience where i planned 4
shoots in one weekend, location to location and each shoot is about 4 hours,
never met the models and didn't know half the ideas (but thats how i usually
work!) and i just go so stressed out coz i had heaps of equipment to lug, coz
i couldn't leave it in my car coz i had already been robbed a few days before
and i was paranoid to the bone that i kept crying and just wanted to cancel everything!!
but it turned out okay. ^.^ that is about the only time i recall getting
frustrated!

What would be your favourite subject/s to photograph?
whatever i see that i think is delicious. to
me, not to everyone else.
What would be your dream photo shoot? Lay it out for
us…
hmmm....4x6 cam, lots of assistants that i can just
say hey you do this... (i'm not really into assistants, i can't
get em to put things the way i want and half don't know what
the boom is.) My dream photo shoot would have to be on a location.
like one that no one is aloud to get access to. Or a secret location.
Oh! a really hot Hair stylist to create exactly as i lay out. I
think the model would be a woman, out in the middle of a lagoon
or underwater, creating some sort of Goddess out of this world.
that would be it.
Do you have any new projects coming up that you can tell
us about?
Besides about 4 Rebel Belle shoots, there are 4 planned SuicideGirls shoots.
Pretty nifty ideas there...
For my own work, i'll need to find some special film for,
this will be my next shoot. It involves a boys dead body. not a
real one, but it will be delicious. And I'm also working on some
abstract stuff, double exposures and doubling up negs in the printing
process. ( This
is one example and my first attempt at doubling up negatives...)
Where do you see yourself this time next year?
Hanging out. New house or 2nd hand! I'll have new cameras!
whoo hoo and i'll be taking on a full time design-ish job. Might
finally have a registered business name, still shooting for SG.
I'll be just chillin, hiding in the shadows, buying recipe books
and making delicious meals. Just to the basics. No travel. Just
being a quiet local. But no doubt there will be some major projects
to be done!

Any advice or trade secrets you’d like to share
with our readers?
hmmm... i got no secrets, i incredible creative vision
because i either didn't see enough or i saw too much.
